Grace Kelly's Wedding Dress

I recently made a remarkable discovery! Vogue patterns has a pattern that is a very close copy to Grace Kelly's Wedding dress. How exciting is that?!? I have loved Grace Kelly's dress ever since I first saw it on a paper doll we have. :D

Another plus about this dress is that it has sleeves! And it is modest. You just need to change the front to be higher like Grace Kelly's. ;)

May I also recommend that you check out, Grace Kelly: Icon of Style to Royal Bride. It has some lovely pictures and diagrams of her wedding dress. Plus, it has quite a few pictures of her other dresses, all of which are lovely!

Side news: If any of my readers will be in London between April 17th and September 26th in 2010, you may be interested in seeing a display at the V&A on Grace Kelly.

Here is what the V&A website has to say about the exhibition.

The spectacular wardrobe of Grace Kelly will be on display at the V&A. Tracing the evolution of her style from her days as one of Hollywood's most popular actresses in the 1950s and as Princess Grace of Monaco, the display will present over 50 of Grace Kelly's outfits together with hats, jewelery and the original Hermès Kelly bag. Dresses from her films, including High Society, will be shown as well as the gown she wore to accept her Oscar award in 1955. These will be accompanied by film clips and posters, photographs and her Oscar statuette. The display will also include the lace ensemble worn by Grace Kelly for her civil marriage ceremony to Prince Rainier in 1956 and 35 haute couture gowns from the 1960s and 70s by her favorite couturiers Dior, Balenciaga, Givenchy, and Yves St Laurent.

  2. I always thought Grace Kelly was one of the most beautiful brides I ever saw. I grew up w/both her movies (as re-runs on TV) & w/her being in the news. I believe I'm the same age as Ablert (I'll soon be 51), so until her death in the car accident, she was in the news quite often.

In May of '06, as a year end field trip before we graduated our oldest daughter from our homeschool, my hometown had the Princess Diana display & it was the last American stop before it all went back to London. Her wedding gown was indescribably beautiful. It literally took everyone's breath away as you walked into the room...you couldn't help but let out an 'ooooo, ahhhh' as you came around the corner. As we stood a mere 2 feet away from the dress (as it was in a HUGE glass case, w/the zillion feet long train let all the way out!), we could tell to moment EVERYONE came around that corner, they ALL said, 'oooo, ahhhh'. lol It became pretty comical to my girls & I. But it was very well worth it...the whole display took about 4 hours to walk through...but the wedding gown was definately the high light.

I know I have asked this before but what is the pattern number for this dress I didn't see it on here.

  6. Yes I certainly think Kate's dress was taken directly from this design...definitely inspired by Grace Kelly's. Lovely dress but I liked the Grace Kelly version better.

  8. Gracey Kelly is amazing! I was actually already browsing through fashion boutiques for a wedding dress.. But this sorta gives me an idea. Think I'll have something after a bit of research.

  9. Hi Ashley,

Just found your blog through searching pics of Grace Kelly's dress for a client. I make modest wedding gowns from scratch and it's funny because anything with sleeves starts looking a tad vintage - odd that sleeves have become "obsolete"! I get a lot of ideas for cute dresses from vintage pictures.
